Alice Murphy is a postdoctoral fellow in philosophy of science at the MCMP. Prior to joining the center, she received her PhD (2020) from the University of Leeds, her MA (2015) from the University of Warwick, and her BA (2014) from the University of Bristol.

Research interests

Alice is interested in imagination, creativity, and aesthetic values in science, as well as the relations between thought experiments and other practices such as computer simulations and physical experiments. She is co-editor of The Aesthetics of Scientific Experiments (Routledge, 2023) and is currently working on the role of aesthetic values and imagination in the context of central topics in the epistemology of science such as understanding, testimony and trust, and the impact of social values.
